September 23 and 24, 2023 in Amelia (Tr) and the Amerino lands: the festival of wine, oil and flavor experiences
It will be held on September 23 and 24, 2023, in Umbria, the first edition of “Amerino Tipico Festival” a two-day experience of discovering the typicalities, qualities, values, and landscapes of the Amerino territory, in southern Umbria, a unique place, where climate, orography and traditions make the identity products unique.
As many as 11 medieval villages and cities of art in the province of Terni, involved in the project “Amerino Tipico” – Amelia, Alviano, Attigliano, Avigliano Umbro, Baschi, Giove, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Montecchio, Penna in Teverina – which have decided to join together to give life to an event that through direct and multisensory experience will bring visitors to enjoy breathtaking landscapes, unique cultural and artistic emergencies, moving in the footsteps of the excellent food and wine productions of the territory, which will be possible to taste among cloisters, monasteries and frescoed halls of Amelia, or directly in the places of production where to meet those who, with the work of the land, care for and design landscapes.
The soul of the Amerino territory is ancient, like its centuries-old Rajo olive trees, “young ancestors,” which could tell a lot about the ancient history of this area, or like the Fava Cottòra, an incredibly hardy ecotype of legume cultivated in ancient times in this area, now a Slow Food Presidium. Also typical and ancient are Grechetto or Ciliegiolo, native grape varieties that bring to the wine and its scents, the same directness and simplicity of the small community that produces them here.
Amerino also has a “sweet” soul, and Bianchella figs are a “very good” example of this, a typical variety of which Dr. Antonio Girotti, in the early twentieth century, understood the essence, so much so that he imagined a sweet, Girotti figs, still a brand of the territory.
Here, in an ideal journey between roads already mapped out and others to be invented, including trekking, farm visits and stops in the villages that stand out in the area, visitors can activate all their senses and fill their bags not only with unique and healthy foods, but also with exciting landscapes, ancient stories and genuine relationships.
So it is that wine, e.v.o. oil, truffles, Girotti figs, cheeses and all the other products of Amerino Tipico will be the common thread that will give life to a new tale of the beauty and excellence of the territory, the tale will also be made through new languages, theatrical performances, photographic exhibitions, thematic meetings.
To kick off the Amerino Tipico Festival, Saturday, Sept. 23, a series of thematic and in-depth meetings on typical products, biodiversity and landscape, the awarding of the winners of the photo contest #PaesaggioAmerinoTipico, which will be followed by a series of guided tasting experiences, to be held in the halls of the Civic Archaeological Museum and Art Gallery “Edilberto Rosa” of Amelia: of Oil e. v.o. DOP Colli Amerini and monocultivar Rajo; of Amerini cured meats; of truffles; of cheeses; and of native wines and ancient fruits.
The day of Sunday, September 24, on the other hand, will bring gourmet enthusiasts to visit the territory and places of production. In fact, a series of wine, oil and flavor tours and guided theater tours are planned to be traveled by shuttle bus, which from the historic center of Amelia will lead to get to know the producers in their places of work, visiting their production territories and being able to listen to the stories of these proud custodians of the landscape who with their work give vitality to the local production tradition and draw by guarding it the territory that surrounds them.
The wine tour will cross the territories of Amelia, Lugnano in Teverina, Jupiter and Montecastrilli; the e.v.o. oil tour will cross the territories of Amelia, Lugnano in Teverina and Montecchio; and the flavor tour will cross the territories of Amelia, Attigliano, Avigliano Umbro, Baschi, Guardea, Penna in Teverina and Montecastrilli.
Framing the tasting and visiting experiences will be moments of theatrical and musical performance, including “Andante,” a nature-walking show by Faber Teater, for the first time in Amelia, where singing and musical time will allow people to connect with the landscape and communities of the Amerino territory.
Closing the two-day “Amerino Tipico Festival” will be a concert in the Barriccaia at Cantina le Poggette with cellist Andrea Rellini.
