Evo oil from the Amerino territory

Welcome to the Amerino area, a territory rich in tradition and history, located in the south-western area of Umbria. Here, extra virgin olive oil (EVO) is a real treasure that represents one of the food and wine excellences of this land.

In the Amerino area, which includes 11 municipalities adhering to the “Amerino Tipico” project, there is a large variety of olive tree cultivars which give the EVO oil a wide range of unique aromas and flavours. The main varieties present include Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Moraiolo and Rajo, each with its distinctive characteristics.

The Amerino territory is particularly favorable for the cultivation of olives and the production of high quality EVO oil. Here, the olive groves extend over gentle slopes and clayey soils, enriched by the Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. These pedoclimatic conditions, ideal for olive cultivation, allow the olives to ripen slowly, developing a balanced aromatic profile of fruity, bitter and spicy.

Amerino extra virgin olive oil is known for its freshness, its controlled acidity and its fruity aromas, which range from light fruity to intense fruity. This EVO oil is an ideal companion for enriching traditional Umbrian dishes, such as grilled meats, carpaccio, legume cream soups, soups.

In the area in question, affected by the territorial project on the food strategy and which extends from the Tiber almost to the Nera river, we can distinguish two sub-areas of the Umbria PDO.

The first and largest is the PDO Colli Amerini sub-area which embraces the municipalities that participate in the Amerino Tipico project: Amelia, Alviano, Attigliano, Avigliano Umbro, Giove, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli and Penna in Teverina. Here, olives are grown with passion and dedication, giving life to an EVO oil that enchants the palates of enthusiasts and gourmets.

PDO Colli Amerini cultivars include Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Rajo. This last variety, indigenous and prevalent in the Amelia area for centuries, gives the oil a unique sensorial profile, with intense fruity notes, and a pleasant complexity of aromas with a rich content of polyphenols.

The second sub-area is the DOP Colli Orvietani which, among the municipalities participating in the Amerino Tipico project, includes those of Baschi and Montecchio. The cultivars that contribute with their unique characteristics to the creation of a quality oil are Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo.

The northern part of this area is characterized by a predominant presence of hilly olive groves, while the southern part is characterized by a more varied landscape, with olive groves extending from the hills to the flatter areas.

The extra virgin olive oil produced stands out for its fruity taste, with aromatic notes of freshly mown grass, almond, husk nut and artichoke.

One of the distinctive characteristics of these oils is the taste balance between spicy and bitter, which creates perfect harmony on the palate. This complex and enveloping aromatic profile gives the oil a unique personality, capable of enriching dishes with intense and authentic flavours. 

La Dop Colli Amerini

La DOP Colli Amerini abbraccia una selezione di comuni che partecipano al progetto Amerino Tipico, tra cui Amelia, Alviano, Attigliano, Avigliano Umbro, Baschi, Giove, Guardea, Lugnano in Teverina, Montecastrilli, Montecchio e Penna in Teverina. Qui, le olive vengono coltivate con passione e dedizione, dando vita a un olio EVO che incanta i palati di appassionati e buongustai.
Le cultivar predominanti nei Colli Amerini includono Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo, Dolce Agogia e Dolce Raggia. Queste varietà conferiscono all’olio un profilo aromatico unico, con note di frutta fresca e una piacevole persistenza amarognola.L’olio extravergine di oliva dei Colli Amerini è caratterizzato da una bassa acidità, un colore verde brillante e una consistenza vellutata che delizia i sensi.
Questo olio di qualità superiore è il risultato di un territorio privilegiato e di un clima mediterraneo, con inverni miti ed estati calde e secche. Gli oliveti si estendono su dolci pendii e terreni argillosi, donando alle olive un’opportunità di maturazione lenta e completa. Il risultato è un olio EVO con un profilo aromatico intenso e una piacevole nota di amaro e piccantezza.

La Dop Colli Orvietani

La DOP Colli Orvietani è una denominazione di origine protetta che comprende una selezione di comuni, tra cui Montecchio e Baschi, situati nella suggestiva zona dell’Amerino in Umbria. Nella zona dei Colli Orvietani, l’olio EVO è ottenuto da una varietà di cultivar di olivo, tra cui spiccano le varietà Leccino, Frantoio, Moraiolo e Pendolino. Ogni varietà contribuisce con le sue caratteristiche uniche alla creazione di un olio di qualità superiore.
L’olio extravergine di oliva prodotto nei Colli Orvietani si distingue per il suo gusto fruttato, con note aromatiche di erba appena tagliata, mandorla e carciofo. Questo profilo aromatico complesso e avvolgente conferisce all’olio una personalità unica, capace di arricchire i piatti con sapori intensi e autentici.
Una delle caratteristiche distintive di questi oli è l’equilibrio gustativo tra dolcezza e amaro, che crea un’armonia perfetta sul palato. L’amaro è presente in modo delicato, donando all’olio un tocco di carattere e contribuendo a una piacevole persistenza gustativa. La dolcezza, invece, conferisce una piacevole rotondità al sapore complessivo, rendendo l’olio estremamente gradevole al gusto.

Raio Olive Tree

Armellino olive variety
The ancient Raio olive grove is located in the Amerino area, near Terni, and is one of the oldest olive groves in the Umbria region. Here grow centuries-old trees of a cultivar which is called by the name of the area, “Raio”, a native variety characterized by a small and tasty fruit, which is especially suitable for the production of very high quality extra virgin olive oil.
BACKGROUND
The cultivation of olive trees in this area dates back to ancient times, and the Raio olive grove can boast a tradition that dates back to approximately 500 years ago. It is an area with a microclimate particularly favorable to the growth of the olive tree, in which the trees grow in a valley protected from the winds, exposed to the west, where cultivated fields and woods alternate. 

CHARACTERIZATION OF THE CULTIVAR

The Raio cultivar is a small native variety, characterized by an ellipsoidal fruit, green-yellow colour, full-bodied pulp and a sweet, fruity flavour. The extra virgin oil produced by this cultivar stands out for its fruity and intense aroma, with notes of artichoke and fresh vegetables, and an intense, slightly bitter and spicy flavour.
