Perugia, June 15, 2022 – The press conference presenting the project “Amerino: Integrated Actions for the Territorial Strategy of Amerino Landscape Food” has just concluded at the Hall of Honor in Palazzo Donini, Perugia.
Speaking at the presentation was the President of the Umbria Region, Donatella Tesei, who commented, “Regional policies must provide the framework for projects like the one being presented today. We are a small region, so what is represented and narrated by various projects like this one in Amerino, in line with the regional project we have been carrying out for about two years now, which is already bringing significant results in terms of visibility and tourist presence, will have an increasingly broad resonance, while maintaining its own identity. The inclusion of the Amerino project is very important, starting from the administrations, businesses, and citizens, because just like the Umbria brand, the awareness of those who live in the territories, the sense of belonging, and the awareness of what the territory itself can offer, in its multifaceted nature, are the basis for the successful achievement of project objectives.”
Following were the administrators of the 11 municipalities involved: the Municipality of Amelia as the lead partner of the project, Municipality of Alviano, Municipality of Attigliano, Municipality of Avigliano Umbro, Municipality of Baschi, Municipality of Giove, Municipality of Guardea, Municipality of Lugnano in Teverina, Municipality of Montecastrilli, Municipality of Montecchio, Municipality of Penna in Teverina. Also participating in the initiative were Marcello Serafini, CEO of Park 3 A PTA, Albano Agabiti, President of GAL Ternano and Coldiretti Umbria, Paolo Morbidoni, President of the Dop Umbria Olive Oil Road and the Regional Coordination of the Umbria Wine and Olive Oil Roads; Luigi Petrangeli, President of the Etruscan Roman Wine Road. “This project,” commented Laura Pernazza, Mayor of the Municipality of Amelia and President of the Province of Terni, “represents a significant opportunity for all the municipalities of Amerino to implement shared strategies for the enhancement of a territorial sector that has always been characterized by a common identity. The idea we are proposing finds in food a key element, which is linked to multiple contemporary challenges. We start from a political vision that places a new role for municipalities at the center to rebuild relationships, primarily within the community, to promote a real attribution of value to the landscape that surrounds us, to those who cultivate it, to our producers, and to the excellences that our land and labor produce. Food is a representative element, it is a point of unity, it is a necessity, but also a great opportunity that emerges as one of the challenges of contemporary times for a real enhancement of the landscape. In particular, our Administration has promoted this proposal also in virtue of our Urban Plan, which is innovatively based on food.”
We are pleased to publicly launch this proposal because the project is aimed at various stakeholders, with the creation of new “infrastructures” and opportunities that are intended to be made openly available to all. The project, made possible thanks to funding from the Rural Development Program for Umbria 2014-2020 Measure 16.7.1, aims to define a territorial development strategy aimed at enhancing food as a key element for territorial innovation, creating cooperation between public and private entities in the area and the consequent construction of the “Amerino©” brand as a driving force for the territory itself. The project aims to create new tools, primarily intervening on five axes: the innovation of administrative infrastructures, with the proposal of shared solutions focused on the role of public administrations; the innovation of digital infrastructures, with the creation of a “virtual square” where a series of meetings can take place; the innovation of storytelling methods, with a rethinking of the narrative of the place’s qualities according to contemporary logic; the creation and enhancement of the “Amerino©” brand, which will be associated with a distinctive visual identity that will be used for marketing and communication campaigns, in order to promote the identity excellences of this territory, in the wine and food, cultural, landscape, artistic, and folklore fields; finally, actions of participation and integration of the stakeholders of the territory, with a proposal that is broadly open to the entire community.
At the end of the presentation, attendees were invited to the Rosa Hall of Palazzo Donini for a tasting of typical products from Amerino, provided by some of the project’s partner companies: Grechetto Umbria IGT from Cantina Sandonna in Giove, “Carmino” Ciliegiolo Amelia DOC wine from Cantina Zanchi in Amelia, Fava Cottora dell’Amerino from the Association of Fava Cottora Producers Slow Food Presidium, cured meats from Società Agricola F.lli Tamburini in Montecastrilli, and monocultivar Rajo extra virgin olive oil from Frantoio Suatoni in Amelia.
